History

The origin of Wing Chun has been difficult in the past for all practitioners of the art to fully agree on.  Due  mostly  to the lack of written documentation. Except for slight variance, the most common stories widely agreed upon begin with a young woman named Yim Wing Chun. 

As the legend goes, Yim Wing Chun is approached by an unwanted suitor.  In order to avoid being forced into marriage she must defeat him in a hand to hand  confrontation. 

Ng Mui, a buddhist nun, helps her to train for the fight, creating a unique style of boxing  Through the techniques of this new style, now known as Wing Chun, she is victorious in the match and avoids the unwanted marriage.  After marrying happily, Yim Wing Chun and her husband begin perfecting and teaching the art we find so highly effective today.
