Build Your Own
Wing Chun Dummy
Ordering a Mook Jong, or Wing Chun dummy through the mail can be expensive. Here are some plans for building a homemade dummy to use temporarily for your martial arts training while your saving up:
First, you will need a 4x4 about six or seven feet long depending on how tall you want your dummy to stand. You will need a piece of plywood measuring four ft. by four ft. square(do not use particle board). You will also need four pieces of 2x4 measuring two feet long each. Then you will need some sort of board to use for the dummy arms and leg. I use two inch dowel rods but I've seen other things such as PVC pipe used.
Attach the 4x4 to the base from underneath using large wood screws. Attach the 2x4's to the 4x4 using large wood screws and then attach the 2x4's to the base from underneath. This will help weigh and balance your dummy. Now to attach the arms and the leg. It depends on what kind of tools you have as to how fancy you get here. With the right tools you can drill holes and insert the arms through the center of the 4x4. Otherwise they will need to be attached to the side. You can also wrap tape around the 4x4 or add padding to create a striking surface.
It may need repair and adjustment every so often but it is an inexpensive and portable dummy that works great for temporary use.

Wckfc.com provides plans for a more complex homemade wooden dummy and a good picture which might help in positioning the arms and leg.
