CHI KUNG
CHI KUNG
Chi Kung, also known as Qigong(the romanized spelling as translated into English from Chinese, also pronounced "chi kung"), is a series of exercises practiced by people for thousands of years. It combines mind with movement as well as breathing and sound. There are many benefits to the practice of Chi Kung, some which may be beyond the belief of an untrained person who has not experienced Chi Kung first hand.
With Chi Kung, a Wing Chun practitioner can further cultivate Chi, learn to build it up in your dan tien, or energy center, and finally control and direct it. Many Chi Kung masters are able to heal others using only their advanced abilities to direct their own powerful Chi into the body of others.
Practicing Chi Kung on a daily or regular basis will have astounding results on your health and overall well being as well as develop your Chi and abilities to control and direct it as well. As you become advanced at the physical movements of the Wing Chun system you will begin to realize that by performing the movements of the Shil Lim Tao, Chum Kui and Bil Jee forms, you have slowly began to build your Chi. By adding the "mind" aspect to these movements as is taught in Chi Kung, you will greatly increase your Chi and your ability to control and direct it.
As you advance in your training you will realize there is much more to Wing Chun and the martial arts than simply physical movement such as blocks, strikes and training patterns. Seek out the right teacher and open your mind to the concepts of training your energy body and you will soon feel for yourself the benefits of Chi Kung training and how it greatly compliments your Wing Chun abilities.
A true master of any martial art will eventually realize the power of Chi to heal and help others as well as inflict damage.
